Nacho Libre

Well, we finally turned off our cable and have been TV free for about two-three weeks now. This means I did go through some withdrawl but I'm doing better now. This also means that we have been watching more movies.
The other night we watched Nacho Libre. Then we watched it the night after that. Then Vaughn let Jonah watch some of it too. We have been quoting from it and trying to get the right accents ever since. I am terrible with voice accents--too self conscience I think, but I keep trying. My favorite things to say from the movie are, "chew make me look like a fool!" and anything with the word "good" works too.
I did not totally love the movie when I first saw it with Kathy and Scott but now, I can't believe how much this movie grows on you. It is such a weird movie but then for some reason I want more. Why is that? Is is like Colonel Sander's chicken? Is there some drug in it that makes you crave it fortnightly? [line from So I Married an Axe Murderer that seems to apply here] What do you think?

I LOVE Nacho Libre. I like Jack Black and there's something strangely amusing about the disgusting-ness of his skinning friend. We have it and I haven't seen it in awhile. Maybe we should pop it in. Scott and I love it when he is talking to the kids about how great it is to do what he does: Something like, "I get to wake up by myself forever. Is the bes. (It's the best.)"

I guess I like quirky movies. I think because the goods ones don't force nasty jokes or try to be funny with swearing so they are PG. They expect the audience to be smarter than slap-stick. It's like not putting in a laugh-track on a tv show. That's one of the reasons I love The Office. They expect you to get the jokes, not having them placed right under your nose on a platter....BUT maybe I think this because I want to think that I'M smarter than I really am. :)

Anyway, I've been watching Dan In Real Life with commentary and then some of my favorite parts. Good movie! I think that's one I could own. And NO BAD PARTS! NO SWEARING! NO SEX! I love it!

I'm sorry to say I just don't get the hilarity of Nacho Libre. It has driven a wedge between Nick and myself, as he also thinks it is so funny and quotes it.

And if I'm confessing, I'll tell you I never liked the movie Moonstruck, either.

So there

Emily, I know MANY people that don't like Nacho Libre or moonstruck. People have strong feelings against Cher. Hmm. And I have a close friend that doesn't "get" the Office while her husband loves it.

I'm one of those that can't stand Lord of the Rings. Yuck. I'd rather do just about anything than sit through 3 hours of that.

A few popular actors I get bugged by: George Cloony, Kira Knightly (her lips are constantly in smooch position), both parties of Brangalia (she, someone else in that constant pout BUGS!)I don't think Brad is all that good looking. I take John Krazinski (sp?) or Steve Carrell way before Brad!

You guys are so funny! I understand not liking Nacho Libre. It is a very strange, goofy movie which I was disappointed with at first but maybe that is why it grew on me. His accent is so funny and fake it is easily mockable.

I second Kath's opinion on the actors that bug. but I do think Brad is sort of hot but I think the guy from Sweet Home Alabama is hotter for some reason. Emily, are you still a Harrison Ford girl? It is OK not to love Moonstruck. I think Tina or Nancy do not love it either.

No, I have gone off Harrison Ford ever since he left his wife to go be with Calista Flockhart. I'm kind of stuck without anyone- I guess my favorite actor right now is Tom Hanks, but he is not so much a hottie. When I was teaching MiaMaids I made some comment about Mel Gibson and they all think he is so old and gross. Funny

I do like the movie Pillow Talk, so I guess I won't get kicked out of clan Wilberg yet.

I agree with the whole Calista Flockhart thing too. I don't like Carrie Fischer because she dumped poor Paul Simon... but he is now with Eddie Brickell I think and she is way younger than him. So maybe he is the creapy one. I'm conflicted.

Every now and then you just have to see Pillow Talk and that always seems to be on a New Year's Eve. Its a great movie!
