Happy Birthday, Lila

Happy Birthday to Lila,

Well today is a big day for dear, sweet Lila. Happy Birthday,Lila. You have been such a fine member of our family. I wish that we lived closer so that we could celebrate with you and be with you as you share all of your many talents with your friends and family in Ames. We watch your pictures as you grow up way too fast..having such a good, full life. I am so glad that you were able to come to see us in Odense. I loved having you especially, in our center learning to play crud and meeting our good friends from Denmark..even our mission president. I know that you know how much that experience meant to us. It was so fun having you sleep on our floor and enjoying the many tender mercies that Heavenly Father gave us while we were in that “Fairy Tale” town. I miss being there.

We had friends who went on missions while we were in Denmark. They went to Siberia and the Philippines.. one of the coldest places on earth and one of the most humid places on earth. We were on what is called the “Garden Island of Denmark.” Every season was full of beauty and color. There are no toxic plants or animals in Denmark- no rattlesnakes, no cactus, not even bears..(although I would like a few bears). Parents send their children there from all over the world because they think it is one of the safest places on earth to go to school. We had no screens on our windows and we kept them open most of the year. It was such a pleasure to serve in this peaceful, beautiful place. I am so grateful that you got a taste of what it was like to serve there. I hope that you have a fine day, ..you are already truly blessed. Thank you for your sweet spirit and for sharing it with all of us. You are such a wonderful gift to our family. You have many of the talents that your mother has. We love you so much and enjoy hearing about your good life.

Hope you have a very fine, and delicious birthday. Wish we could send you a Princess Cake …just had one of them with Stephanie last weekend on her birthday celebration- a late fun birthday at her new house. We love and appreciate you Lila, can’t wait to see all of you at the end of July or first of August. I think we’ll have a day dedicated to Denmark Days..maybe learn to make some aebleskivers and play another game of crud. See you there.

We love you and wish for you such happiness as a new teenager- what a step, Love Grandma and Grandpa Wilberg
(notes from e-mail to Lila sent April, 2011)

Ps.  Thought this picture of our naked man in town square in Odense was a  good way to celebrate your step into the world of teenagers.  He looks better wearing snow but he was always there  every day as we drove by him on the way to our mission.  I was offended by him when we first arrived in Denmark but I learned to appreciate him as he was dressed for every season- snow, surrounded by flowers during flower fest, and then used as a slide during the hot summer days by the children of Odense.  Hope that you will continue to enjoy your sweet life as you step into the sometimes confusing world of teenagers.  You will have memories that you will never forget.  Much love to you Lila, Grandma B
