I didn't know the story of Jane Eyre at all. I put it on our NetFlicks queue months ago and because we haven't really looked at it lately, (and to Scott's initial disappointment) the first of two dvds of the BBC version of Jane Eyre came to the top of the list. We got it in the mail and Scott opened it up and said "What?!?" And I guess because of the time period, or, embarrassingly enough, the name similarity, I was expecting more of a Jane Austen type of story. We were totally thrown when the opening scene was very dark and spooky; about a little orphan girl being tormented in that terrible red room. We wondered if we wanted to even watch it. But we did finish the first dvd really wanted to watch the second. Well, I just loved it! I even cried a little when Mr. Rochester grabs Jane's hand when he finally recognized her. What a great story! I loved it. And thanks to Claire, a close friend of mine, I've borrowed the book and will start reading it as soon as possible! Scott liked it, not as much as I did, but he still liked it...I think it was because Jane is just not hot enough. :) But she's not supposed to be, right?!Anyway, I'm finally getting on that Jane Eyre train. What do you all think about it? Who's read it? Love it, hate it, indifferent? And if you haven't seen this version, I obviously recommend it!
p.s. This is in regards to an old post but, Emily, I have TWO friends that hate Twilight. :) I WILL have to see the movie when it comes out, though, in December. And I have to track my book down to re-read some parts.

Maybe hate is a strong word.. but if you want to read a good vampire book read Interview with a Vampire- but much darker, so maybe don't read it.
I haven't seen Jane Eyre and haven't read it for a long time, so thanks for the recommendation!

Hi Kathy! How's life with 3 going? I hope all is well! I read Jane Eyre in Albuquerque, back when I had a real house and a real couch to get comfortable in! Aaaah, memories! Anyways, I really enjoyed the book. It is definitely different than the Jane Austen books but I loved the story and the ending! I'll have to look into the movie! Thanks!

Hey, if you guys want to, we could do it as a book club book. We haven't read as a group together and I don't know who's turn it is and maybe Jane Eyre isn't so life changing as other books, but if any of you want to do it we could. Any takers?

I have tried several times to read the book, but I do better with listening to books with too many British words in them. Somehow it makes better sense with a British accent. I did, however see the movie. It was the Hollywood version that came out in 1996. I thought it was great!
