Healing Hands for Haiti

I hope it is ok I put that blog button up there- my sister and I made it for the Utah Hospital Task Force and they are in my thoughts constantly lately.

I don't know if you have heard of them. A friend of a friend went in to offer to help them. Her experience is in social network marketing (using blogs and facebook, etc) and 6 hours later she still had not left and had found out she would be on a plane 5 days later. I am obsessed with following her and her progress.

They put out the call for volunteers to go to Haiti. It is amazing the response. They had over 700 people volunteer to go, including return missionaries from Haiti to act as translators, medical personnel and construction workers. They sent 1 plane so far and the return flight brought back 53 orphans to be placed in Utah homes. They are not an LDS organized group but the majority of them are LDS.

It is amazing to me. The visiting teaching lesson this month is on being self reliant. I think the church takes it to the next level. Not only are we to be self reliant, but when we are we are then able to share with those in need. And another benefit of missionary work- all those translators already trained and experienced in the culture.

Anyway, I think they are a worthy cause and I wanted to share. I am feeling very grateful for my warm house, clean water, clean clothes, car that works. My healthy body. My healthy and happy kids. Our big trauma this week was canceling cable TV. Kind of puts things in perspective.

Hope you are all well and warm
Emily

This is great, thanks for sharing. I have been thinking a lot about what I can do to help the people of Haiti, and it is inspiring to hear of all the men and women giving so generously.

Really cool Emily. Since we do not have tv anymore I have seen really nothing on Haiti, and only hear about it on the radio. That is one thing wierd about no tv--really no "News" of what is going on.

Great post, Emily. Our news is limited about what is going on in Haiti. What an amazing story. What a sad, difficult life the people of Haiti are experiencing. Thank you for shedding a little more light on them. Love you, Belva
